How do I choose the right Singer® bobbin?Updated 3 months ago

Bobbin Tips & Hints

• Use only bobbins that are the same class/style as those that come with your machine – don’t substitute!  SINGER® branded bobbins are recommended for best results. 
• Wind thread on empty bobbins only – don’t wind additional thread onto partially wound bobbins, as this can cause stitch irregularities when you sew.
• Don’t overfill bobbins or they will not move freely in the bobbin case.
• Make sure thread is correctly seated in the bobbin winding tension disk of the machine before starting to wind (see your machine instruction manual for more information).  The thread that is wound too loosely can cause machine jamming.  The thread that is wound too tightly can distort or break the bobbin.
• If a bobbin becomes chipped, bent, warped or damaged, discard it & replace with a new bobbin.

SINGER® Class 15 Transparent Bobbins

• Bobbin Height:  7/16” (12mm) / Bobbin Diameter: 13/16” (21mm)
• Top and bottom are completely flat
• Transparent, no color tint
• Do not substitute with Class 15 metal or Class 15J bobbins

SINGER® Class 15J 
 

• Bobbin Height:  6/16” (11mm) / Bobbin Diameter:   ¾” (20mm)
• Top & bottom very slightly curved
• Transparent with very slightly blue color tint
• Do not substitute with Class 15 metal or transparent bobbins

SINGER® Class 15 Metal Bobbins

• Bobbin Height:  7/16” (12mm) / Bobbin Diameter:  13/16” (21mm)
• Top and bottom are flat
• Metal bobbins must be used in models that come with this style
• Do not substitute with Class 15 transparent bobbins or Class 15J

SINGER® Class 66 Bobbins Transparent
 

• Bobbin Height:  5/16” (10mm) / Bobbin Diameter: 13/16” (21mm)
• Top and bottom both curved
• Transparent, no color tint
• Do not substitute with Class 66 metal bobbins

SINGER® Class 66 Metal Bobbins
 

• Bobbin Height:  7/16” (11mm)    Bobbin Diameter:  13/16” (21mm)
• For use with specific models only
• Curved top and curved bottom
• Do not substitute in machines that use Class 66 transparent bobbins

SureFit™ Bobbins
 

• Bobbin Height:  ⅜” (10mm)  /  Bobbin Diameter (widest):  ¾” (20mm)
• For use with Inspiration™ 4200 series machines only
• Bobbin is slightly wider across the top than it is across the bottom
• Do not substitute any other bobbin styles, as they will not fit

Metal Bobbins
 

• Bobbin Height:   ¼” (7mm) /  Bobbin Diameter:  ⅞” (23mm)
• For models 221, 221K, 222 and 301 only
• Look similar to Class 15, but shorter in height
• Don’t substitute with Class 15 or Class 66 metal bobbins

Centaur II Bobbins

• Bobbin Height:  ½” (13mm) / Bobbin Diameter:  1⅛” (27mm)
• Bobbin has a “floating center” which works in conjunction with the     wind-in-place process of specific models only
• Don’t substitute with Futura™ bobbins (wind-in-place), which look similar

Touch & Sew™ Bobbins
 

• Bobbin Height: 5/16” (8mm) /  Bobbin Diameter:  1⅛” (27mm)  
• Bobbin for specific models only
• White rings on top side, bottom side is narrow that top side
• Bobbin can be twisted to take apart

Futura™ Bobbins
 

• Bobbin Height:  ½” (13mm) / Bobbin Diameter:  1⅛” (27mm)
• For older “Futura” machine models with “wind-in-place” feature
• Not for Futura™ sewing & embroidery machines
• Don’t substitute these with Centaur II, which look very similar
